Fevola is after Waroona

Former AFL star Brendan Fevola has revealed he is gunning to down Waroona with his new Rockingham teammates on May 26.

The sides meet in round eight of the Peel Football League next month in possibly their most hotly anticipated clash yet.

The Demons edged out the Rams by seven points last week — and took out the flag last year in the grand final, breaking Rockingham hearts.

“The boys lost last year’s grand final against Waroona, and were beaten by seven points last week, hopefully I can help turn the tables when I come down in May,” Fevola said. “It’s a beautiful ground with great clubrooms and the boys look pretty sharp, everything’s pretty impressive.

“It’s obviously a good standard (of football), it’s just below the WAFL.”

Fevola praised the Rams juniors, after holding a short training session with them.

“The kids were good and they’ve played in grand finals as well, they had good skills and had a good mix of tall and short blokes, they were great,” he said.

Fevola now plays his home games with Yarrawonga, about 280km outside of Melbourne, in Victoria’s Ovens and Murray League.

His away games have consisted of trips to the Northern Territory and Tasmania for one off-games. The former Carlton spearhead said he was happy to give back to country football after plying his trade in the AFL.

“You go out and do these games to attract a crowd so the club can make a little bit of money and get some kids out at the footy,” he said.

“With AFL on all the time now on free-to-air, not many people tend to go out to local footy now so that’s how they generate their money.

“I played in Tassie last year and they attracted 8000 to 9000 people and made a lot of money for the club.”

After dismissing a return to the AFL, the 32-year-old is eyeing a move Stateside to the NFL as a punter.

“NFL is on the cards, I just need to get the training right, the Pilates and the yoga, get flexible and head back over in October,” he said.

“I was over there for two months, I punted really well.”
