Digging their boots into the mud the Rockingham City under-17s girls embraced the wet conditions and recorded a 4-3 win over Kalamunda at the weekend.

Jostling for a position in the top four, the City girls made full use of their opportunities on Sunday.

Kicking off at noon, at Lark Hill Sportsplex, City took control of the ball early using the wind to their advantage and held a 4-1 half-time lead.

Bonnie Rostron helped herself to a brace, while Linnea Evanson and Lucy Jerram both got on the scoresheet.

City defence slipped against Kalamunda’s strikers, who made their move 10 minutes into the second half, to bring the score back to 4-2.

Kalamunda continued to fight back following with a corner and netted their third goal, resulting in a nailbiting finish to the game.

City’s scrambling defence stood tall to hold out further attempts to draw the game.

Goalkeeper Emily Searle stood firm until the final whistle to ensure the win.

Coach Eliza Mitchell said 100 per cent effort from all players was asked for and delivered in last weekend’s victory.

The girls will face Joondalup at noon on Saturday at Lark Hill.

Clinching a win against the fourth-place on the ladder, the City girls would make finals football a reality this year.

Mitchell said the club hoped to see supporters back again next week for another thrilling game.
