Fire crews battled a blaze at a Parmelia home which was 80 per cent engulfed in flames this morning.

Crews from Hope Valley, Murdoch, Rockingham and Success attended the Elbuet Way property, after the fire was reported at 9.18am.

A Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said firefighters were still working to extinguish the flames, after which the level of damage and cause of fire could be determined.

Ian Reid, grandfather of the property’s residents said his three-year-old great-grandson may have been responsible for the fire, believing he was playing with a cigarette lighter.

He said his granddaughter Sinead Shewring was sleeping and woke to her baby crying.

Mrs Shewring said no one was injured in the fire.
