Five dance their way into competition

After successful day of dancing at the Australian Teachers of Dancing State Scholarship competition on June 11, five Rockingham dancers have been selected to travel to Brisbane in July to compete in a national event.

Dakota Pages, 10, Aimee Harrison, 14, Maddison Lamont, 16, Georgia Dean, 11, and Isla Fenwick, 11, are all dancers at Premier Performance Academy in Port Kennedy and, having finished in the top four of their respective divisions, will now head east for the ATOD Australasian Energetiks Scholarship competition.

The students will take on dancers from around Australia and will be judged on both their performance in a choreography lesson and on their practised routines the next day.

PPA dance teacher and owner Rhiannon Longstaff said she was very proud of the girls and how hard they had worked for their success.

“We have had girls qualify for the national event in the past but never this many in one year,” she said.

“It is fantastic to see them rewarded for their efforts and I am sure they will be highly competitive in their divisions.”

The scholarships offer dancers an opportunity to dance for award money and prizes.
