Flames burn out against Mandurah
It was a rough weekend for the Rockingham Flames as both the men's and women's team dropped their games against the Mandurah Magic.
The women fell 71-62, while the men lost 111-103.
For the women, it was the first loss of their season and it pushed them to second place at 7-1, with Mandurah now at the top of the ladder at 8-1.
The Magic were able to slow the game down to their pace, as it was a tough physical battle all night long.
Mandurah was especially superb on the defensive end of the floor, holding Rockingham to just 29 per cent shooting from the floor, their lowest mark of the season.
Jacinta Bourne led the way for Rockingham with 15 points, and Darcee Garbin posted another double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Mandurah overcame a nine-point halftime deficit and outscored Rockingham by 10 in the fourth quarter to record the win.
In the men's game, the Magic led wire to wire, never trailing the entire match.
Cooper Land had 24 points and 16 rebounds and Ryan Godfrey had 23.
Rockingham could not get stops when they needed them as the Magic took advantage of their big line-up to bully the Flames in the post with mismatches.
The loss puts the Flames at 5-5 on the season as they have struggled to find consistency in a season that has been riddled with injuries.
Seven players have missed games due to injury at some point this season.
However Land, Andrew Bowman and Travis Moore all played extended minutes and came away unscathed against Mandurah after missing recent games.
Corey Craig and Justin Beard are expected back soon.
Up next for Rockingham is a Friday night matchup against the Stirling Senators at the Mike Barnett Sports Complex.
The women tip off at 6.30pm and the men at 8.30pm.
