Flames find form with third straight win

The Rockingham Flames women recorded a third successive victory after their opening-round loss to the Willetton Tigers in a grand final rematch.

Rockingham beat Cockburn by 54 points in front of a home crowd at the Mike Barnett Sports Complex.

The flames were in control, leading 50-27 at half-time, and went on with the job, outscoring Cockburn in the second half, 57-26, to romp to the big win.

Sami Whitcomb had another unstoppable performance for the Flames with 34 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and five steals on the back of shooting 9-of-18 from the field, 5-of-10 from three-point land and 11-of-13 from the charity stripe.

Darcee Garbin had a big night off the bench with 24 points and 15 rebounds while Ashlee Sidebottom contributing 14 points, seven boards and three assists, and Tarsha Fletcher 12 points, three rebounds and three assists.

The Cougars were too good for the Rockingham Flames men, who went down 84-98.

Cooper Land top-scored for the Flames, with 21 points and six rebounds, with Ryan Godfrey adding 14 points, Chudier Pal, 13 (seven rebounds), Jarryd Griffin, 12 (nine boards), and Nebojsha Franich, 10 (nine rebounds).

The Flames face the Eastern Suns next week.
