Focus on fun fitness

Students, staff and parents walked, scooted and cycled to Leda Primary School last Friday to celebrate National Walk Safely to School Day.

Now in its 17th year, WSTSD is a community event, encouraging students to walk and commute safely to school.

The Year 6 students researched the celebration, dressing up in blue and gold in the morning and lining the front entrance of the school to cheer on walkers as they arrived.

The students’ chant created for the day was “you walked a bit and now you’re fit”.

Principal Amanda Jones-Rowbottom said the event worked well with the school’s focus to encourage students to be physically active and healthy.

“It’s a way of bringing the community together in a health venture and it’s a reminder that even a little bit of walking is good for you,” she said.

“It’s a wonderful event and it’s great to see the students so excited — I could hear them chanting from my office earlier this morning.”
