The team at Rockingham Low Cost Food Centre is calling on local businesses and families to help feed those in need for the rest of 2016.

The centre is launching a new campaign called FEED 500+ and have set a goal of regularly feeding 500 customers before the year is out.

Centre co-ordinator Bev Blake said more than 6000 households were struggling to make ends meet in the area.

“The Low Cost Food Centre provides emergency relief and discounted food for health care, seniors and DVA card holders,” she said.

“We can also assist people who don’t have a card but have been referred to us by other agencies.

“We are in need of food and personal item donations as well as financial aid to ensure we can continue helping those who are facing tough times.

“Just $2 from each household in the Rockingham district will help raise enough to make a huge difference.”

The Low Cost Food Centre has been operating since 1993, providing customers with groceries almost at cost price.

Mrs Blake said the centre had been supported by Malibu Fresh in many ways over the years, with discounted and donated fruit and vegetables supplied.

“What the centre offers can change the world of each family and individual that walks in our door,” she said.

“It doesn’t matter where the people are coming from, but we do encourage people to continue to shop with us after receiving assistance to support our ongoing cause.”

The Rockingham Low Cost Food Centre is located next to the Salvation Army building on Willmott Drive.
