Football: Dockers lack discipline

STEVE PASCOESound Telegraph

Secret Harbour took on Kwinana at Medina Oval in a Div 1 Mercantile League clash at the weekend and an undisciplined performance saw them go down 15.6 (96) to 14.10 (94).

Both teams got off to a good start, with 11 goals kicked for the quarter in overcast conditions, butKwinana were more accurate and held the lead 6.1 (37) to the Dockers’ 5.4 (34).

The second term saw the game tighten up, with three goals apiece and both teams putting together good passages of play.

The third was just as close, with neither team able to open the gap by more than two kicks, with the Dockers going into the final term six points down, 13.3 (81 ) to 11.9 (75).

The Dockers lacked discipline, especially in the second half, with too many players giving away too many free kicks, which resulted in costly turnovers.

Lachlan Dickman and Dwayne Backshall played well, as did Jaryd Syson in patches.

Jesse Ironmonger and Zac Van Berkel, up from the colts, both did well. Ryan Casson and Alex Byrne kicked four goals each.

The colts started their second round of fixtures on Saturday, hosting Nollamara at Rhonda Scarrott Oval in blustery, wet conditions.
