ARRAN MORTONSound Telegraph

Rockingham churches joined forces on Friday for a special day of celebration to mark international Christian initiative, World Day of Prayer.

Congregants at Port Kennedy’s C3 Church paid tribute to the organisers of the day with special French-themed decorations.

A special program of events gave Christians in attendance information

and background on the country, including its government, official religions and status of women throughout history.

Readings from the Old and New Testament were prepared from members of various churches, including Warnbro’s St Brendan’s. Inspirational stories from Christian women from around the world were also heard.

A spokeswoman for the church said more than three million Christians worldwide took part in the themed event “I was a stranger and you welcomed me”, which aimed to encourage understanding of different cultures and their interpretations of biblical passages.

“People from more than 170 countries took part in the event,” the spokeswoman said.

“The churches in Rockingham and Kwinana are all from different denominations but came together as one to be part of it.”The spokeswoman said the event brought churches together and welcomed everyone from all walks of life.
