St Vincent’s School in Parmelia will open its doors to the community on Saturday for its biggest celebration of the year.

The school is hosting an open day to coincide with its 60th anniversary and invites all members of the community to join in the fun.

Assistant principal Kirsty Byrne said the school was proud to have a family-oriented community spirit and looked forward to celebrating the impressive milestone.

“The anniversary event will be a chance to showcase our school and its history,” she said.

“We will have lots of photos and memorabilia on display throughout the school and our choir will be singing on the day.

“St Vincent’s began as a small single-stream school in Medina and, while we have moved location and grown to accommodate a double stream in recent years, we have always managed to maintain a family-focused environment.”

Education assistant Helene Iriks has been a staff member at St Vincent’s for 30 years and attended the school as a student in the late 1960s.

Her own children and now six of her grandchildren have all donned the St Vincent’s uniform.

“Mrs Iriks is a well-loved member of the staff and has been for many years,” Mrs Byrne said.

“She is a wonderful example of the staff who choose to remain at our school for long periods of time or who travel from all over Perth to teach here.”

The celebration will begin with a community Mass in the church at 10am.

Devonshire tea, scones and a sausage sizzle will be served for a gold coin donation.
