Gilmore students thrilled to see Queen
Two students from Gilmore College were selected along with Kwinana Mayor Carol Adams to an official welcome for the Queen, held at the Supreme Court Gardens in Perth.
Picture: Gilmore College Year 12 students Kennah Parker and Dale Valkenstrom joined Kwinana Mayor Carol Adams on a trip to see the Queen in Perth on Saturday.
The gathering was attended by local government representatives from WA, along with school students from their respective areas.
Cr Adams said she was honoured to have been selected to attend the welcome.
Gilmore College student Dale Valkenstrom was excited about the event, which was held from 4pm to 6pm.
‘‘It’s a bit overwhelming — mum lived in England for 16 years and never met the Queen, now she has come over here and had a son who will be the one to meet the Queen,’’ he said.
Fellow Gilmore student Kennah Parker was also excited about the event, and appreciated the efforts of the Government to involve school students.
‘‘I’m really looking forward to it,’’ she said before the gathering.
‘‘Mr Barnett has made a lot of effort to invite young people — I think that’s great.’’
