Good start to summer

The Kwinana area has experienced its wettest summer to date, according to Bureau of Meteorology figures released yesterday.

The Medina weather station has recorded 56.4ml of rain this summer to date, but a lot more rain will have to fall before the end of February to top the wettest summer period on record.

That record was set during the summermonths of 1991/92 when 274.7ml of rain was recorded, with 230ml falling over just one day, on February 9. On the same day in Perth, 120.6ml fell on the city.

Despite a chance of thunderstorms on the horizon for today and Friday, the forecast for the rest of the week will be dry and warm with warmer nights to come.

The average temperature recorded for the summer to date at Medina station was 30.9C, slightly above the average of 30.5C.

The average night time temperature this summer is 18.9C, well above the average of 16.8C.

According to the forecast, night time temperatures for the rest of the week will remain above 20C.

A hot 36C is predicted for tomorrow and Friday with with a minimum of 23C on both nights.

Over the weekend, the maximum will drop to 34C on Saturday and 29C on Sunday, but the nights will remain balmy at 24C and 20C.
