Grant to help finish Kwinana youth space
The outdoor youth space under construction in Kwinana is set to be bigger and better after the City received a $250,000 Lotterywest grant to assist with the completion of the project.
South Metropolitan MLC Phil Edman met City of Kwinana Mayor Carol Adams at the site of the project on Calista Oval last week to present her with the grant.
The money will go towards the completion of the $1.5 million Kwinana Outdoor Youth Space, which will replace the skate and BMX park.
The City has been working with residents and youth to design the space through information evenings and discussions of the concept plans.
Cr Adams said the new youth space would be accessible by users of all ages and abilities.
“It will feature a multi-use court and other amenities, such as seating and shelter, and our aim is to ensure a social meeting space that fosters local community spirit while also promoting safety and crime prevention,” she said.
“The young people of Kwinana have shown a tremendous amount of enthusiasm towards the new space and the City has engaged the users of the previous skate park to ensure the new features are modern and that it will be well used by the youth in our community.
“This generous grant will help us build a facility they will be proud of.”
In 2014-15, Lotterywest raised $283 million to support the WA community.
