After months of preparing the beds and filling them with soil, the very first seedlings were planted in the Volunteer Task Force community garden in September.

The Grow Creative Community Garden 2016 is a partnership between VTF, Bunnings and the City of Rockingham, and construction of the sustainable, self- watering wicking garden beds began in February.

VTF Gardening and Special Projects adviser Andy Harold joined a group of VTF clients to plant cherry tomatoes into the fresh soil on September 21 and said he hoped the garden would become a busy community hub.

He said the garden beds were designed to be tall enough for people to plant in while standing up.

“We want to enable people who can’t get down into their gardens at home to have somewhere they can go and still get a gardening fix,” he said.

The Grow Creative Community Garden will feature five raised garden beds as well as vertical planting beds in the coming months.

VTF is continuing to be supported by Perth Nomads Golf Club which is hosting a Charity Golf Day Tournament on Sunday, October 23, at Secret Harbour Golf Club. Nomads Golf Club has raised more than $575,000 to date for charities.

All money raised this year will fund a SkyVac Gutter Vac machine and trailer to assist with the VTF Water Wise service.
