Guides help spread spirit of Christmas

It was a morning of cheer and a feeling that Christmas was just around the corner when a group of girls sang in this year’s tree of giving.

The Baldivis Girl Guides recently helped with the unveiling of Australia’s largest and longest-running Christmas gift appeal, the Kmart Wishing Tree, singing carols at Baldivis Stockland.

Kmart Baldivis manager David Langan said it had been a pleasure to have the guides sing at the launch.

“The team at Baldivis Kmart are proud to be able to help those in need and we encourage anyone looking for a way to help those less fortunate to come down to the store, pick a tag and leave a special gift,” he said.

“It will make a big difference to someone’s Christmas.”

Baldivis Girl Guides leader Kym Nugent said the girls were pleased to have been asked to be involved in the unveiling of the tree for 2016.

“We had a lot of fun singing carols with staff and customers,” she said.

“This time of year is tough for some, please take the time to think of others, a small gesture can make a huge impact.”

Celebrating 29 years, Kmart together with The Salvation Army and Mission Australia are helping to show others that they are not alone by distributing donated gifts to those who need it most this Christmas.

Salvation Army representative Sharon Bywaters thanked Kmart and the Baldivis community for their support and generosity. “Because of this there will be many children and adults with smiles on their faces this Christmas who would have otherwise gone without this Christmas,” she said.
