Gym gurus Power ahead

Ellie HoneyboneSound Telegraph

Rockingham gym 24/7 Power Fitness had a stand-out representation at the International Natural Bodybuilding Association’s Perth Classic event earlier this month with 14 members competing in several divisions.

Also representing the gym at the event was trainer Steve Morley, who won three trainer awards and received his INBA Pro Card.

After months of dedicated training and nutrition, the 14 competitors returned home with awards and top-five placings in the fitness, physique, bodybuilding and bikini divisions.

Morley, an experienced trainer who also travelled to Vegas last year to compete, was very proud of all the competitors and said they looked fantastic on the day.

“Just preparing for competitions is a major achievement,” he said.

“It’s not easy training for two or three hours a day and sticking to the strict diet is the hardest part.

“On the day, I work with the competitors backstage and help them with final preparation and muscle-filling techniques to make sure they look their best.

“It becomes all about stage presence, confidence and posing.

“You don’t necessarily have to be the biggest — it comes down to those who have the complete package.”

24/7 Power Fitness owner Matt Dyson was pleased with the turnout at the first competition since the gym opened in March.

“All of our members fit in the intense training and diet around work and families — it is quite a commitment,” he said.

“Competing is also a great way to improve as everyone receives feedback from the judges, which helps them come back to the gym and figure out what they need to work on.”
