Peel Health Campus is continuing to support local graduate nurses, with five graduating from the hospital’s 12-month Graduate Registered Nurse Program this month.

The program is designed to support the graduates during their first year as a registered nurse and provides an opportunity for graduate registered nurses to consolidate their clinical skills in a varied environment.

A spokeswoman from the hospital said it was delighted to announce that all five graduates would be joining the team at Peel on a permanent basis. Tanya Cupples, who heads up the education and training department at the hospital, said the nurses had used this opportunity to develop their clinical skills.

“The program really helps graduates to find their feet and build up confidence in a clinical environment while being fully supported,” she said.

“We’re thrilled with this year’s intake and extremely happy that all five graduates will be joining us on a permanent basis.

“It’s always a joy to watch the nurses grow as professionals and be able to provide ongoing education throughout their career.”

Graduate nurse Devon McKenney said the graduate program had been an invaluable experience.

“The graduate program has provided outstanding support to myself and the other graduates,” she said. “The program provides us with a staff development nurse who has been a constant support and source of knowledge. It has definitely improved my confidence and clinical skills.”

The graduates will start in the hospital’s emergency department and medical ward.
