Indigenous traditions celebrated

Sound Telegraph

Baldivis Children’s Forest hosted a NAIDOC event on Sunday where children, parents and grandparents took part in a range of activities designed to explore indigenous culture and tradition.

About 40 participants joined the Baldivis Children’s Forest for an afternoon of performances and storytelling from Phil Collard and The Wadumbah Dance Group.

Mr Collard performed the Welcome to Country, told stories around the campfire and showed the children how to make tools.

The Wadumbah Dance Group gave an informative performance with their didgeridoo, storytelling and dancing which Baldivis Children’s Forest events coordinator Michelle Thompson said was highly enjoyable.

‘‘Everyone was smiling and thoroughly enjoying the performance, young and old,’’ she said.

‘‘They even got some of the audience up to join in.’’
