Italian heritage shines through

Sound Telegraph

Back by popular demand, the Italian Women’s Choir is set to delight at the October Morning Melodies show at Koorliny Arts Centre.

Choir coordinator Mary de Wever said the audience could expect a ‘‘happy, joyous event’’ that would get them clapping along, with most songs performed in Italian.

‘‘We have got a piano accordionist coming,’’ she said, adding that a violinist would also perform.

‘‘We try to sing some lively songs and get some participation from the audience.

‘‘We’re looking forward to coming.

‘‘Hopefully the audience will enjoy and clap along.’’

The 22-year-old choir is made up of first, second and third-generation Italians and has had an illustrious career, performing in Canberra and most Australian states.

Mrs deWever said the voluntary group of women loved to share their Italian heritage through music and song.

‘‘They love singing,’’ she said.

Le Gioie Delle Donne will perform at Koorliny Arts Centre on October 12 at 11am, with a morning tea at 10am.

Tickets cost $10.
