A Wellard teen has beaten his way to the top to be crowned the 2016 Perth Beatbox Royale champion.

Jed Linton, aka Jeddlesone, has been in the top 16 beatboxers Australia-wide for the past three years, and won the WA title on April 17.

The 19-year-old started beatboxing in Year 8 and began taking it seriously after becoming involved with Beatbox Australia, which provides opportunities to young artists.

“Winning the championships actually means a lot to me,” Linton said.

“After everything I’ve been through, I feel like I haven’t accomplished much, and so winning made me feel really good about myself.”

“I’ve now earned my spot in this year’s top 16 competitors and will be travelling over East to compete for the Australian title.”

Starting with the basics and teaching himself through YouTube videos, Linton moved on to performing at festivals, including Freakfest in Kwinana.

Since winning the coveted title of Perth’s Beatbox Champion, Linton has been approached by one of the judges, Sam Perry who has offered to help him record and get his name into the industry.

“He is really good friends with the people I idolise, which is great,” Linton said.

“Beatboxing is a family — I want to be a part of that family, and I will be.”
