Jim brings scooter riders together

MATILDA PRICESound Telegraph

Jim Straker has a passion for scooters, so much so that he’s decided to start a new club.

As there was nothing similar based in Rockingham, Jim decided it was time people brought their old scooters out of the shed and put them to good use.

“Back in the 60s there used to be the Mods and the Rockers and there’s a club up north of the river called the Paradise Lost Scooter Club but we don’t want to go that way,” he said.

“We’ve decided that because there’re a lot of scooters in sheds and garages down south and a lot of people don’t want to go past Fremantle, we’ll start a club down here.”

The club is called the Coastal Scooter Club SRWA and is a non-profit group that will do charity runs every now and then.

Jim said he hoped to get people together once a week at Emma’s on the Boardwalk.

He said some scooter groups did not accept all kinds of scooters but they were an exception.

“Any kind of scooter — Vespers, Twist & Gos, Lambrettas, whatever is welcome,” he said.

Membership of the club is free and anyone is welcome.
