Jones takes on diva role

SOPHIE HAWKINSSound Telegraph

Kwinana continues its run of producing stage talent as a former Kwinana Theatre Workshop performer takes to stage in a new production, Falling to the Top.

Breeahn Jones stars in the play, written by her brother Tyler Jones, which follows the story of four rejected reality contestants who form a girl group.

With shows like The Voice and X-Factor dominating Australian television screens, Falling to the Top is a timely production.

It examines whether there might be an over-abundance of reality show singers. Jones plays FonDue, a girl who will do anything to be famous.

She joins Salli-Ann, Tonya and Feliciabel, who have all experienced their 15-minutes of fame on the TV show Pop Rocket, to form The Divalettes.

Jones said it was the chance to create an entirely new character which captured her interest.

‘‘She’s assumed the role of leader of The Divalettes and is driven, talented and won’t let anyone stand between her and success, including her best friend,’’ she said.

‘‘But she soon realises money and fame may not be worth the sacrifices she has to make.

‘‘It’s not often in Perth you get the opportunity to create a role in an original musical, which is one of the main reasons I wanted to do this show.’’

Falling to the Top will show at Playlovers Theatre at Hackett Hall in Floreat at8pmon August 24, 25 and 31 and September 1, 7 and 8.

A 2pm matinee will be held on September 2.
