Lyn and Barney McCauley were two happy newsagency owners last week after McCauley’s Orelia News and Lotto sold the lucky $1 million ticket in Wednesday’s Lotto draw.

Western Australia took out the only division 1 winning ticket in the draw, following on from the sole winner at Woodvale Boulevard Newsagency the week before.

Mr McCauley said although he did not know who had bought the winning ticket, he hoped the winner was a local.

“We don’t know who has got the winning ticket,” he said.

“It’s a bit of a mystery at the moment but I hope they’re from Kwinana or Rockingham.”

Mr McCauley, who has owned the store for the past 27 years, said he had seen his fair share of luck strike over the years.

“We’ve had a few big winners over the years and we were starting to sense that another one wasn’t too far away,” he said.

“You’ve just got to keep positive and eventually you’ll get lucky.”

The Orelia store has collected a number of lucky charms over the years in a bid to help bring the store luck.

“We’ve got a horseshoe which has walked many miles and we even have a touch of Irish luck from a piece of Blarney Stone that has come from the famous Blarney Castle in Cork, Ireland,” Mr McCauley said.
