The Kwinana Knights returned to the winners’ circle and retained second position on the WA Metropolitan Football League ladder after accounting for Warwick-Greenwood at the weekend.

The Knights were keen to atone for a surprise loss the previous weekend and did exactly that in a hard-fought 45-point, 13.12 (90) to 6.9 (45), win.

Warwick-Greenwood battled hard and remained in the contest right up until the final quarter.

However, Kwinana had an ace up their sleeve in the form of forward Daniel Bell, who booted seven goals.

Shai Johnson, Zac Teir and Luke Pitman were among the Knights’ best, while Dave Buchanan shrugged off injury to provide physical pressure in defence. Jake Tregear and Michael Pierce-McNeil were also important in rebounding the ball into attack.

Ricky Ninyette was the side’s only other multiple goalkicker, with two majors.

Meanwhile, the Knights comfortably accounted for Warwick-Greenwood in the corresponding reserves clash, winning by 132 points, 25.14 (164) to 5.2 (32).

The margin provided a handy percentage boost heading into the latter stages of the home-and-away season.

Warwick-Greenwood were able to gain momentum at different stages of the game, but the Knights were never really troubled as the forwards added to their impressive goal tallies.

Julien Baldwin finished with 11 majors for the second time this season, while Craig Johnson bagged eight.

The Knights’ best were Ryan Grey and Darren Taylor, who provided quality disposals around the ground.

Ben Hilliard also impressed and is pushing for a league berth after again beating his direct opponent and setting up numerous rebounds from defence.
