It was a proud day for the Kwinana Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service on May 7 when officers, firefighters and their families gathered to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the station.

Brigade secretary Christopher Bedwell said the event was a huge success with the rain even holding off in time for the celebrations.

“We had formal proceedings to begin with and presentations by DFES commissioner Wayne Gregson and City of Kwinana Mayor Carol Adams,” he said.

“After the formal proceedings, guests mingled with past and present members who told many stories about the station’s history and some of the calls that had been attended.”

Cr Adams said she was honoured to attend the milestone anniversary event.

“On behalf of the Kwinana community I would like to thank the past and present volunteers of the Kwinana Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service for 60 years of hard work, commitment and bravery,” she said.

“The service has a long and proud history, volunteering thousands of hours each year to the safety of our community.”
