Kwinana RSL celebrates 60 years in May
Servicemen and women and veterans are encouraged to attend the 60th anniversary celebration of Kwinana RSL next month.
President David Spillman said club members were looking forward to celebrating the milestone with a formal five-course dinner at the Kwinana Golf Club on May 7.
The support group formed in 1952 as the Medina RSL but as the town grew it became the Kwinana branch.
Milestones of the club include the war memorial being built in 1957, which is understood to include ashes of past military personnel, and securing a branch home on Pace Road, Medina, in 1999.
Mr Spillman was an ammunition technician with the regular army from 1974 to 1994.
He said the RSL offered members camaraderie which they were used to in the forces.
“It also offers access to programs for health and career advice, post service,” Mr Spillman said.
To cap off what is set to be a delicious feast, the anniversary celebration will offer a window into yesteryear with historical photographs and memorabilia.
