“Rich in spirit, alive with opportunities and surrounded by nature” is the new vision statement for the City of Kwinana’s Plan for the Future — Kwinana 2030 document.

Kwinana councillors unanimously passed the City’s plan and vision at last week’s meeting.

All local governments are required to have a strategy to guide the long-term operations of their region for the next decade.

In a report to the council, Kwinana Mayor Carol Adams said both the new 10-year Strategic Community Plan and the four-year Corporate Business Plan were guided by community feedback from a survey carried out last year.

“With the City’s rapid growth as well as radical changes to local government boundaries and legislation on the horizon, we wanted to capture the aspirations and wishes of the existing Kwinana community members so they can be considered as these developments occur,” she said.

“The Strategic Community Plan reflects the insight, experience, vision, priorities, challenges and hopes of the Kwinana community for their place in the years ahead — and what a place it will be.”

Cr Adams said the survey results indicated residents wanted to see more shops and restaurants, less antisocial behaviour and an improved reputation for the City.

Meanwhile, the City also approved a mixed-use multi-storey development for the corner of Chisham and Meares avenues.

The new development will see the Kwinana Lodge demolished and construction of a residential and commercial building.
