Rockingham and Peel could benefit from a boost in tourism dollars pledged by Mark McGowan if WA Labor wins the 2017 State election.

Mr McGowan last week announced his plan to make WA one of the world’s great tourism destinations by promising a five-year investment in the sector as part of Labor’s $425 million Plan for Jobs.

Of this, $45 million will be allocated for business events, domestic tourism and international leisure, while another $40 million will go towards attracting major events in the State.

“Western Australia has everything going for it to become one of the world’s great tourism destinations,” he said.

“We live in an amazing State and we should be selling that message to the world because the gains from tourism are enormous.

“We need to unlock the potential of areas like Rockingham and the Peel region — these are beautiful parts of our State that have been overlooked in terms of tourist potential.''''

“Our Plan for Jobs will provide a big boost to the local economy and create jobs closer to where people live.”
