Leahy finishes road-race season on a high
Peel District Cycling Club ended its road-race season last Sunday with a hilly time trial and a barbecue.
Before the riders got to enjoy the goodies provided by sponsors Brumbies, there was a 26km race to complete.
Starting at Serpentine Dam, riders climbed immediately for the first 2km before riding another 11km in testing winds along the undulating Kingsbury Drive, before reaching the lookout and turning around and racing back to the dam.
The fastest time of the day was Conor Leahy with 39min. 8sec., with Colin Rose the second fastest with a time of 40:15 and Liam Magowan third fastest with 41:36.
The race is run on age standard, which gives riders a time bonus based on age, which meant over-50 masters rider Rose took the win, with under-19 rider Conor Leahy second and over-60 masters rider Steve Ware taking third place.
The summer racing sea-son begins with flat mid-week time trials in Hopeland on November 2.
