The Rockingham Legacy Laurel Club recently celebrated its 25th birthday.

Members of the club celebrated the milestone with a lunch and cake, together with officials from the Fremantle branch.

Pauline Vernon has been president for the past five years welcoming many new members in that time and said the birthday was very special.

“We meet fortnightly to socialise and to keep everybody bright and happy,” she said.

“Sometimes we play bingo, have guest speakers and have a meeting where we talk about who’s sick and who’s got something funny to tell us.

“The club provides a support network for widows in the area and we raise funds with a fashion parade and garage sales.”

City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said the City appreciated, supported and valued the service of the club to the community.

“We congratulate them on everything they have achieved over the past 25 years,” he said.

Ms Vernon said any war widows wanting to join could contact her on 9594 0527.
