Liberals could hit ‘back pocket’ of families: Gray

Sound Telegraph

Brand MHR Gary Gray says more than 8000 families in the national electorate, who are set to receive their latest instalment of the Federal Government’s School Kids Bonus payment this week, would be worse off under a Tony Abbott-led government.

Mr Gray said the payments, which started hitting bank accounts last week, provided relief for thousands of families who faced back-to-school costs.

“The School Kids Bonus helps lighten the load for local families,” “This money helps parents buy uniforms, shoes, school books and stationery, as well as other costs like school excursions, music lessons and sports registration fees.”

Eligible families receive $205 for each enrolled, primary school-aged child and $410 for each child enrolled in high school.

Mr Gray said it would be the last payment families in Rockingham and Kwinana would receive if there was a change in government later this year.

He said if Mr Abbott followed through with his commitment to axe the payment, a typical family with two children would be $15,000 worse off over the course of their children’s schooling.

“I know a lot of families are feeling the pinch right now, and they rely on this extra support to make sure their kids have everything they need for school,” he said.
