Delays are plaguing the construction of the new Kwinana Library, with the estimated completion date now pushed back to November this year.

The $22 million library was originally slated to open in March, according to Kwinana Mayor Carol Adams.

Cr Adams issued a statement citing a variety of reasons for the delay, including difficulties getting tradespeople and materials.

‘‘Unfortunately, delays to projects of this scale and complexity are sometimes unavoidable,’’ she said.

The council is working closely with the project manager, architect and builder to get the facility open at the earliest opportunity.

The new library will include a cafe, community centre and creche, and is part of a wider revamp of Kwinana.

The State Government pledged $6 million towards the project in 2010.

A council spokesman said the addition of a Dome coffee shop meant architects had to redesign part of the building, and the skylights in the new library were complex.

The volume of construction work in Perth, and difficulty sourcing trades and services, were also to blame, he said.
