Lovers plan romantic offerings for Valentines

ELISIA SEEBERSound Telegraph

The streets of Rockingham and Kwinana will be adorned with gestures of love on Friday, as couples spoil each other for Valentine’s Day.

“Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet, and so are you” — these are the lyrics of many a poem recited on the day of love.

Valentines have many options to choose from when declaring their love, but the traditional choices of wining and dining, jewellery and red roses still top the list, according to Rockingham business owners.

Hanging Basket Florist coowner Todd Smith said the long-stemmed red rose still remained the first choice for most partners.

“Red roses are always the most popular choice for Valentine’s Day, that is the traditional romantic gift in flowers,” he said.

“We have about 5000 stems of roses coming in (this week) to process.”

Mr Smith said last year was a record breaker, with the florist ordering more roses each year from growers to keep up with client demand.

“We up our order with our growers every year and we sell them all every year,” he said.

Lovell Jewellers owner Martin Lovell said some women would be surprised with everlasting hand-crafted jewellery.

“I have been working on a few special pieces, a combination of eternity rings, pendants, earrings, bracelets and bangles,” he said.

Mr Lovell said buying jewellery for a special Valentine was always a popular choice and it was enjoyable to help spread the love.

“It is very satisfying to create a piece for someone that they will love and enjoy for many years,” he said.

Meanwhile, couples lucky enough to book a table at Sunsets Cafe and Bistro, on Rockingham Foreshore, are set to enjoy a romantic red-and-white setting, with candles, balloons and chocolate roses.

Owner Patricia Bassi said tables were booked up as of Monday last week.

“(Valentine’s Day) is about getting out of the day-to-day house routine and being wined and dined,” she said.
