Magic movements for young dancers

ARRAN MORTONSound Telegraph

It was all pink and glitter last Friday as an excited bunch of tots donned their favourite leotards and leg-warmers for their weekly dancing class.

The eight little dancers are just a handful of hundreds of Rockingham children who attend fantasy dance class The Fairies each week. In operation for just three years, the Rockingham branch of The Fairies has been nominated for a national award recognising great activities for children.

Co-owner Jenny-Lee Fussell, who started the business with friend Jocelyn Logan, said she was “delighted” to hear news of The Fairies’ inclusion in the best party entertainment category in the National Children’s Awards Scheme.

“We’re really excited to be put forward for the award — The Fairies has taken a little while to catch on but the children just love it,” she said.

“Our teachers love working with the children and it’s great to see them progress through the different age groups and watch their confidence grow.”

Mother Rebecca Weir, whose three-year-old daughter Emily takes part in classes at the Council Avenue studio, said her daughter had been “so excited” about attending.

“This is only Emily’s second week here, but she has been so excited she has been wearing her leotard every day,” she said.

“We only moved here from the UK three weeks ago and I had showed her The Fairies’ website before we came and she was just delighted.”

A National Children’s Awards Scheme spokeswoman said the junior awards had received more than 15,000 votes.
