The people of Kwinana have spoken and the City has responded.

Residents used community surveys to report they wanted improvements to public parks leading to the upgrade of six parks in the past financial year.

New playground equipment, barbecue facilities, shade structures, furniture, landscaping and pathways have been installed in Harry McGuigan Park, Hennessy Park, Skottowe Park and Casuarina Reserve, Bournan Heights and Harrison Park.

Prince Regent Park will have a new playground installed later this year.

City of Kwinana mayor Carol Adams said it was important to maintain quality public open spaces in the city’s growing suburbs.

“We are fortunate to have more than 130 beautiful, leafy parks and reserves throughout Kwinana, including 43 much-loved playgrounds,” she said.

“In 2013 we introduced our Parks for People strategy to ensure that in addition to our regular maintenance and upgrade schedule we complete at least two major park redeve-lopments a year.”

The two most recent upgrades have been to Harrison Park and Bournan Heights Park which both had new playground structures installed last month.

“We are focused on the relationship between overall community heath and easy access to well-equipped, quality parks and public open spaces,” Ms Adams said.
