Mandurah prove too good for Rockingham

Mandurah did enough to pip rivals Rockingham at the post in this year’s ANZ Mobile Lending Club Championship last week.

More than 110 triathletes took part in the event in Singleton.

A dominant showing from Mandurah’s men ensured victory, after Rockingham’s women had tallied more points than their opponents.

Nicky Goodfellow led the women’s ladder, followed by Amadine Malardeau and Carina Costello.

Luke Goard was pushed all the way by Brett Johnson and Peter Hornburg.

Rivalry was fierce with both clubs eager to win the trophy. After perfect swim conditions it looked like Rockingham had the edge, but Mandurah clawed some ground back with a strong bike leg.

Rockingham Triathlon Club president Joshua Mann said he enjoyed the friendly rivalry between the clubs. “We are looking forward to next year’s race to win the cup back,” he said.

The Sunsmart Trystars race was held after the championship and more than 90 junior triathletes participated.
