Mayors go on air to discuss local issues

ELISIA SEEBERSound Telegraph

Barry Sammels and Carol Adams swapped their mayoral chains for headphones and microphones last Thursday to be part of the ABC’s Mornings with Geoff Hutchison radio program.

Hutchison hosted an outside broadcast at Rockingham Shopping Centre which included a debate between Brand MHR Gary Gray and Brand Liberal candidate Donna Gordin.

Cr Adams and Cr Sammels then joined Hutchison behind the microphone to talk about their respective cities.

A range of topics were raised throughout the interview including law and order, disengaged youth, public transport issues, a lack of doctors in the area, and the projects both cities were working on to combat the issues.

“Generally life is very good down here we have a lovely coastal lifestyle and we have got some fantastic facilities to offer,” Cr Sammels said.

Cr Adams mentioned the work at the Zone Youth Space as a means of keeping children and teenagers engaged, while Cr Sammels highlighted the Rockingham Youth Station.
