This Sunday marks the fifth anniversary of the Medina Community Festival and will see the popular event take place in the revamped Medina Hall.

The festival, which is co-ordinated by the Medina Residents Group, is always jam-packed with local entertainment and activities and is a chance to showcase local talent.

Medina Residents Group vice-chairwoman Mandy Grubb said the festivities would begin with a traditional welcome to country by local elder Lindsay Calyun.

“After that, we have Mr Michael, a favourite with the Medina Primary School kids, who will engage the audience in the beat of the drum and the Jungle Body Tribe will have everybody moving and dancing while toning their muscles,” she said.

“A focus of the day will be the young resident performances from Studio2Stage, the Medina Primary School Choir, the Yonga Boys and Pe Roopu Ramgapahi O Mgarupou children’s dance group.”

Last year’s Gilmore College head student Sam Earnshaw will guide audiences through the day as the MC.

Ms Grubb said, in keeping with tradition, the festival would recognise a resident who had contributed to the richness of Medina and the City of Kwinana with the Medina Marvel Award.

“The new Medina Marvel will be in esteemed company sharing the award with previous winners Max Burton, Isabella Corker, Theresa Walley, Ilsa Mueller and Lyn Coomer,” she said.

Access to the festival can be gained for the price of a gold coin donation and it will be open from 11am to 3pm. The Medina Residents Group acknowledges the assistance of the City of Kwinana, the office of Roger Cook MLA, the Kwinana Community Chest and the tireless work of devoted volunteers.
