Secret Harbour residents are picking up the pieces after a mini tornado ripped through the coastal suburb in the early hours of this morning, ripping roofs of homes and fallen trees blocking roads.

Wind gusts of 100km/h were recorded in Mandurah at 1.53am.

Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said emergency crews attended affected homes in Secret Harbour at 2.30am.

Cr Sammels said the gazebo at Tuart Park was destroyed.

“A number of large trees were blown down across Secret Harbour Boulevard and large branches have fallen in Nolin Way,” he said.

“Up to 24 residences sustained damage from roof tiles coming loose and flying debris such as tiles and trampolines, which were picked up by the winds and broke roofs and windows.

“State Emergency Services crews are still working to repair damaged properties and City crews are also on the scene ensuring roads are clear of trees and other debris.”

Residents are asked to steer clear of Tuart Park and Nolin Way while clean-up crews are at work.

A severe weather warning remains in place from Mandurah to Albany.

To report property damage phone the SES on 13 25 00 and trees or branches down on roads, verges or public land can be reported to the City on 9528 0333.
