A brief hiccup at box rise couldn’t prevent classy young chaser Mique from claiming his fourth win on-the-trot in the Winter Sprint final (490m) at Mandurah on Friday.

Mique came out of the traps like he was glued to the launching pad but after only a few strides he found his rhythm and accelerated to top pace.

From box eight he had the room to work himself into the race and he quickly pressed forward.

Mique swept past the leading Activator to snare the front before they hit the turn and then kicked away to put himself into an unassailable position.

Neither Activator nor the strong finishing Mike The Knight could make inroads into the margin in the home straight and Mique marched across the finish line more than two lengths ahead in 22.64sec.

Better known for his supreme form at Cannington, where he is the 380m track record holder, Mique has proven in his past couple of runs he’s become more than accustomed to the Peel circuit.

Mique was fastest qualifier from last weekend’s heats and his effort in the final dispelled any queries about his ability to win at Mandurah.

“He usually takes a step or two to find his feet but once he gets going he’s hard to hold out,” Mique’s owner and handler Margaret Hepple said after the race.

“He just loves to run and loves racing which is a big reason for his success.”

Mique now has 14 wins from 26 attempts and more than $38,000 in stakes.

Another greyhound in red-hot form is short-course dynamo Timmy Mac.

The 28kg pocket rocket from Terry Earnshaw’s kennels blitzed to his fifth-straight victory in the 302m Free To All on Thursday evening.

Timmy Mac led all-the-way to score by six lengths in 16.95sec.
