It is one of the most iconic dance films of all time and now Footloose the Musical is making its way to Mandurah.

The Stray Cats Theatre Company has partnered with Mandurah Performing Arts Centre to present the explosive movie musical based on the 1980s hit film.

Footloose The Musical sizzles with romance, rebellion and the journey of self-discovery.

Chicaco-raised teen Ren McCormack (Jason Arrow) moves with his mother (Sonja Pich) to the small town of Bomont to live with his aunt and uncle.

Once he arrives, Ren discovers the city council has banned dancing and rock music.

He soon falls for a rebellious teenage girl named Ariel, (Georgia McGivern), who has an abusive boyfriend, Chuck Cranston (Tate Bennett), and a strict father, and local preacher Shaw Moore (Scott Hansen).

Ariel’s red-neck boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren’s reputation, with many of the locals eager to believe the worst about the new kid.

The heartfelt story that emerges is of a father longing for the son he lost and of a young man aching for the father who walked out on him.

To the rocking rhythm of the films’ Oscar and Tony-nominated score and augmented with dynamic new songs for the stage musical, Footloose celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people, guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind.

The musical has some adult concepts.

Footloose, directed by Karen Francis, opens on October 6, at 7.30pm, and continues on October 7 and 8 at 7.30 pm, with matinees on October 8 and 9 at 2pm.

Tickets, which are selling fast, are available from Mandurah Performing Arts Centre.
