NAIDOC dance delights
Aboriginal dancers told visual stories through dance at the opening of NAIDOC Week in Rockingham, enthralling onlookers.
Mayor Barry Sammels said the week was about strengthening relationships and the day had special significance as it coincided with the council’s launch of a 12-month Reconciliation Action Plan.
‘‘It is a starting framework with the aim of making all the city’s services, facilities and functions inclusive, equitable and accessible to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples,’’ he said.
The event also featured a welcome to country by Theresa Walley, flag-raising, storytelling and a series of dances by the Halo Dancers.
