Navy sorrow after second crew death

Royal Australian Navy personnel based at Fleet Base West on Garden Island have been dealt a second blow following the death of another serving crew member while on a tour of duty.

The sailor,who served on board HMAS Warramunga, died while ashore on leave in Sihanoukville, Cambodia, on November 10.

On Sunday, the Department of Defence named the sailor as Leading Seaman Boatswain’s Mate Bradley William Livingston, 33.

In a statement issued to the press, the department said the sailor’s family were continuing to be provided with support by the navy and the Defence Community Organisation.

The department said two members of the ADF Investigative Service were in Cambodia to investigate the death.

Staff at the base are still recovering after the death of Able Seaman Ewan McDonald on October 23 while on a port visit at Mumbai, India.

He had been serving on board HMAS Toowoomba and was on the ship when he died in a ‘‘shooting-related incident’’.

The investigation into the circumstances of his death is ongoing.

HMAS Toowoomba returned to Garden Island, Rockingham, last Monday, following Operation Slipper duties in the Middle East.
