After a successful start in 2015 at the Mike Barnett Sports Complex, the Netball WA No Limits Netball Program is again running.

A specialist program for participants 11 years and above with an intellectual disability, No Limits supports the development individuals in netball skills and also in basic, everyday living skills.

Netball WA co-ordinator Caitlin Farano said the program was incredibly beneficial not just in providing regular exercise, but also an avenue to interact with and meet new people.

“For those who have a disability, exercise and physical health means independence and the ability to live out of home and also translates to an increase in self confidence,” she said.

“Schools have begun to introduce healthy living and eating and it is very important that we provide ample opportunity for all get involved.”

Participants are free to attend any No Limits session and are not locked in to complete a certain number of sessions, with fun and enjoyment being the focus.

Ms Farano said these sessions were welcoming and social and allowed the athletes to gain new skills in a safe environment.

“With drills and skills as well as modified games we develop each participants netball abilities, while also discussing game play and formal rules,” she said.

At the completion of the program, Netball WA supports participants by linking them with a netball club, or developing a team to play on a more regular basis.

This year there will also be a No Limits division as part of the association championships, Netball WA’s largest participation event, as well as the opportunity for participants to be selected to represent WA at the Marie Little Shield, a national tournament for players with an intellectual disability.

The No Limits program runs from 3.45pm on Mondays. For more information contact caitlin.farano@netballwa.com.au.
