Mash Brewing Rockingham has introduced open mic nights in a bid to increase the mid-week music scene in Rockingham.

Event organiser Aaron Thomas said the Thursday night gig was open to anyone wanting to play for a crowd.

"It will give musicians another platform to perform in Rockingham," he said.

"It will change the vibe of Mash, too."

"It's a lot more human to listen to live music than just putting a CD on."

The 23-year-old musician, who also works at Mash Brewing, said he was keen to boost Rockingham's music scene.

"It's a strong music town; I'd rate the musicians here highly, about eight out of 10, but the scene and platforms for exposure only five out of 10," he said.

"We're about halfway there."

Thomas said last week's inaugural open mic night had been a great start to the event.

"We want singers, musicians, poets and stand up comedians, anything goes really," he said.

"It creates a public space for people to express themselves.

"It's all about entertainment."

Thomas is seeking solo and duo acts to take part, with no limit on genre or age, although people under 18 years must be accompanied by an adult to enter the venue.

The open mic night starts at 7pm.
