PCYC roll with new wheels
Rockingham Police and Community Youth Centre visitors have a new transport option, with a bus now available for use.
The new 17-seater and wheelchair access bus was donated to the Rockingham PCYC by children’s charity Variety WA.
PCYC centre manager Jackie Abbott said the bus would alleviate travel costs and stress for disadvantaged visitors and people with disabilities.
“A lot of our families have wheel chairs and can’t get to competitions, it will allow our groups to compete in the real world,” she said. “Our main focus at the centre is high risk youth and disadvantaged youth but the bus will be available for everybody.”
Variety WA program manager Phil Croot said helping the Rockingham PCYC get a bus was what Variety was all about.
“Hopefully the bus can make a big difference to what PCYC does here in Rockingham,” he said.
“It is what we are all about, finding where the needs are and helping kids who are disadvantaged or have special needs to be able to be integrated into the community.” PCYC president Cheryl Williams said the bus was a wonderful addition to the centre.
“It does so much for the community and it does so much for the centre,” she said.
“A lot of the community cannot afford to get here to do certain activities and the bus is now available for them to be picked up.”
