Plant creates jobs
A chain reaction of possibility will result from the opening of ATCO Structures and Logistics in Kwinana, with the company’s newest manufacturing plant set to create more than 100 jobs.
The new 14,000sqm facility in the city’s Latitude 32 Industrial Zone was officially opened last Thursday, with a formal celebration and facility tours.
ATCO managing director Adam Beattie said the Kwinana plant was the sixth in Australia and would expand its manufacturing capacity in the country and help to meet growing demand for products and services, including large-scale liquefied natural gas and mining infrastructure projects.
“ATCO will work with the local community to hire skilled trades’ people and production workers, ensuring that the Kwinana area fully benefits from ATCO’s presence,” he said.
Attorney-General Michael Mischin attended the event, congratulating ATCO on behalf of Premier Colin Barnett.
“ATCO is an example of how, from little things great things can grow,” Mr Mischin said.
“It is a great example of what is possible with initiative, with foresight and a preparedness to take risks.
“This facility is expected to generate something like 100 jobs, it is expected to draw upon the expertise of other local industries contractors, it is expected to provide opportunities here and in other parts of the State and that is to be applauded.”
Kwinana Mayor Carol Adams said the new operation provided opportunities for local employment and would be beneficial in the fight against Kwinana’s high unemployment rate.
“To hear 100 and maybe up to 200 people in the region will have the opportunity for employment is just absolute music to our ears,” she said.
ATCO also announced a $10,000 contribution to Kwinana’s NAIDOC Week celebrations.
The Kwinana plant is manufacturing modular units for the Wheatstone Project.
