The festive season is just around the corner and local politicians are again urging members of the community to donate food and toys to support those in need this Christmas.

Rockingham MLA Mark McGowan, Kwinana MLA Roger Cook and Warnbro MLA Paul Papalia have been involved in the annual appeal for the Coastal District Care Centre, the Salvation Army and the St Vincent de Paul Society since 2013.

The politicians’ offices provide drop-off points for gifts and food and Mr McGowan said so far the response had been enormous.

“We have been writing to community organisations within our electorates asking them to donate, and each year our foyer has been close to overflowing by the end of the appeal,” he said.

“It is always a truly heartening response and I am pleased to have been involved for so many years.

“This Christmas in particular, the economic situation is much tougher for many families, so we believe the demand will be higher on this service.
