Port Kennedy four strike a major blow

Sound Telegraph

The Port Kennedy Strike MMA mixed martial arts fight team had four fighters and four victories at a promotional event in Perth.

Scott Noras took on Luke Dowsett in the 77kg welterweight division in the night’s first event in the cage.

Noras landed some good strikes and got an early takedown. The referee stopped the fight early in the first round with Noras earning a TKO win.

Dean Roberts was up against Peter Kennedy at 110kg in the night’s first professional bout.

Roberts was coming off an impressive win over UK Giant Dave Keeley and it didn’t take him long to dismantle Kennedy, prompting the referee stop the fight. The result takes Roberts to a 4-0 record, all by KO.

Dave Johnson met Rob Powdrill at the catchweight limit of 80kg, with Johnson earning a takedown after Powdrill caught him with a good right hand. It didn’t take long for Johnson to tie Powdrill into knots on the ground, with Powdrill forced to tap via a rear naked choke in the first round.

The main event saw Joel Oliver and Kris Kemps do battle for the 70kg lightweight title.

Oliver won the first round, but Kemps responded with two knockdowns in the second.

Oliver held on and regained the momentum in the third and was close to stopping the fight with devastating punches and elbows in the fourth.

In the fifth, Oliver managed to land the better strikes, with the judges awarding a majority decision in what was an outstanding display of mixed marital arts action over 25 minutes.
